UEHLING BARN
13 ΒΌ x 20 β inches
(Historic Uehling barn on the Russell Uehling farm, built c. 1914-18)
This multisided wood-frame barn stands seventy feet tall on the west edge of our family farm. The Uehling family built this barn on a crest that overlooked the town.
Even though they were rare, round, multisided barns like this were thought to make more efficient use of space than conventional rectangular barns. Failed barn structures of the past taught the farmers to reshape their barn interiors to withstand the strong, forceful winds of the plains.
Past failures can be great life lessons. This barn serves as a symbol demonstrating how internal structures can be reshaped to better cope with the forceful winds of life. By realigning our perspective and appreciation of past experiences, we can all become more resilient.
