58 - SUN STRUCK
SUN STRUCK
15 x 10 ⅜ inches
(Posing in front of our Oldsmobile)
To prevent shadows on our face, Mother insisted that we look toward the sun when she took a photo. At age three, looking at the sun was the last thing I, or any other child, wanted to do. This painting expresses my displeasure with posing.
With maturation, my perspective toward intense light changed. With increased awareness, we begin to appreciate and welcome every ray that might uncover long-hidden shadows. Our resistance softens, and we gracefully welcome growth.
Even though life experiences have expanded me, the independent three-year-old will always remain an important part of my life.
