The Student Union was the social center of the UNL campus. After spending my formative years in small schools with limited choices, I found it exhilarating to socialize. The Student Union allowed for the kind of mingling I had longed for.

The present southern side of the Student Union remains an example of the campus’ historical architecture. To my artistic eye, when the new addition was installed, the historical beauty was compromised.

Like a good host at a festive party that makes certain that their guests feel welcome, the historical Student Union had a subtle way of not drawing attention to itself, while magnetically pulling all together to create a sense of community.
