MAN OF MANY HATS
18 x 26 inches
(1942—Dad on his new Farmall tractor)
Dad wanted to prove to his new bride that he would be a good provider. Tending his crops with vigilance brought success throughout my parents’ marriage. When Dad wore this snug black leather hat, he was piloting his tractor to bring the harvest home. He often began before sunrise and worked past midnight.
The many hats Dad chose to wear changed from moment to moment: inventor, salesman, conservationist, businessman, teacher, farmer, car dealer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, protector, prankster, father, and more.
I loved his father hat most. It provided comfort, guidance, and unselfishness along with a firm hand of discipline; he taught both the dark and the Light.
