16 - UEHLING ELEVATOR

UEHLING ELEVATOR

21 x 13 ½ inches

(c. 1990’s—Grain elevator in Uehling, Nebraska)

Area farmers used this old building for their grain. It allowed them to take their surplus to town to be stored next to the railroad tracks, making transportation to processing and distribution centers simple. Although this aging elevator was essential for farmers, it did not have long-term storage capabilities. Dad’s company was instrumental in improving grain storage for many surrounding farm communities.

He could have easily stayed with the security of farming, but Dad had the courage to break free of family tradition and do what he believed he was meant to do.

I am often lifted by Dad’s independent determination.
