37 - THE GROVE
THE GROVE
13 ⅝ x 21 ¾ inches
(The grove at the Weitzenkamp farm)
This dark grove was near the end of the long lane at Mom’s childhood farm. The grove was very mysterious and harbored some dark secrets. Although Mother’s recollections of childhood days often brought remarkable joy to her voice, her tone was dim and shadowy when she talked about this clump of trees. The darkness of this grove is metaphoric: it represents a past that needed to be brought into the Light. Though bringing wounds to the Light can be painful, it allows for healing.
Painting encourages one to explore dark and light, drawing the artist closer to Light as a means to frame and shape darkness. As we understand the dark, we can represent Light honestly.
