(Charolais cow)

These two paintings mark my initial and likely final attempts at portraying cows. I recognize they do not represent my finest work. One Charolais cow, standing apart from its herd, appeared almost to implore for a photograph. Against the stark, trampled dark soil of the cattle yard, its white coat proved ideal for a portrait. After capturing a profile image, the cow turned to face me directly, as if aware of my desire for a straight-on shot.

As a young child, I often interacted with our large farm animals, gently petting and speaking to them. They seemed to grasp the need to be careful around a small child. Once our eyes met, any fear vanished. I have always been curious about the soul of an animal; there exists a profound and enigmatic connection when human and animal meet eye-to-eye.
