COUNTRY MAIL
13 ½ x 8 ¾ inches
(Kuerner’s mailbox, Chadds Ford, PA. 1989)
Our country mailbox was nestled between two steephills at the end of our lane. When I was a child, being asked to get the mail made me feel very grown up and important. Rural living often felt isolating, but letters, mailings, and catalogs helped connect us to the outside world.
Childhood memories came flooding back when I stumbled upon these mailboxes while tracking Andrew Wyeth’s footsteps through the rolling hills of Chadds Ford. Synchronicity nudged me to paint them—the paint from my brush flowed with ease as I recalled my childhood days.
Like the mail, these rural mailboxes were delivered to me that day.
