WISDOM REMAINS

22 x 18 inches

(c. late 1880’s—William Jennings Bryan’s first home in Lincoln, Nebraska)

Politics and social issues were important to the Youngs. This is where William Jennings Bryan lived when my great-uncle joined his law firm. If only on paper, preservation of this historical building and its connection to my heritage is noteworthy.

Like many of us, this unpreserved house has gone through many changes. Although the tower and balcony are gone, powerful history remains. Unpreserved exteriors eventually disappear while inner words of wisdom are revealed: beauty steals inward.

Bryan shared many words of wisdom during his life—one of my favorites: “Destiny is not a matter of chance: it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
