DAD’S PICK-UP HAT
20 x 14 inches
(Cap dad wore when he drove his pick-up)
Dad worked harder than any man I have ever known. He wore this work hat when he drove his pickup. His pickup was his companion; it was his office, his snack center, and his refuge for solitude. It was his personal space where he could let his creative mind invent and formulate his impending business deals.
He always kept treats in the cubby hole—black jack gum was one of my favorites. I have many memories of riding in the pickup with him. Some completely warm my heart and others I have had to forgive in order to heal.
My paternal role model was a great teacher. It has been helpful to revisit all the memories, to bring a fresh perspective, to shed light on dark and hidden places.
