Dad’s collection of hats portrayed his many colorful personalities. Normally, Dad was intensely frugal, but when he donned his Stetson hat that matched his brown Cadillac, he was in success mode. Although he could do flare at times, he never got lost in it. He made certain that his children remembered the importance of balancing humility and success. He would playfully tease us if he saw us getting too caught up in our achievements.

His hats and matching cars were the only visible signs of success that he displayed—he never let his own accomplishments blind him from recognizing those in need and lending a helping hand.
