FARM COMPANIONS
18 x 14 inches
(Post and wire at the end of our lane)
Unlike elaborate entrance gates, this post and wire marked the beginning of our long lane, our rural entry guards. In combination, the post and wire are useful companions—necessities in the life of a farmer.
The post and wire symbolize the deep friendship between Dad and Uncle Walt, each helping the other achieve success. Both were hard-working and goal-oriented men. Amidst all the work, there was potential for rivalry, but they never competed; instead, they encouraged each other. Like the post and wire, each had a respect for the other’s talent. They knew there was strength in their pairing.
Together, they could also be wildly playful. Fourth of July would often be spent at Uncle Walt’s. Dad and Uncle Walt were like a couple of kids going nuts, buying excessive amounts of firecrackers. The evening was celebrated with incredible zest! With much laughter, teasing, and excitement; two large families together made unforgettable memories. Combined they were real firecrackers that knew how to work and play with passion! It was great to see these two intense men playing instead of working so hard. Farm companions indeed.
